CEO – Corporate, Airport Sector

Indeed, the sky has always allured us with an undefined mystique and an arresting charm for centuries. The ravishing and striking appearance has made us look up at it so much that we actually like the limitlessness of the sky.

In the last two decades, India has attained an enviable global position as a leading market, economic centre and a major industrial force to reckon with. Coupled with globalization and backed by a massive youth population, several sunshine industries made India their home of hope. While Information Technology lay in the forefront heralding the revolution and modernity, another sector too has opened up to the youth with endless vistas of grand opportunities and success – the Aviation & Airport sector.

Liberalization of the economy, De-regulation, Open sky policy and Public-Private Partnerships has boosted the Air Traffic movements. Airports are seeing rapid expansion / modernization and even Tier II & Tier III cities are bracing themselves to fly more with technology and advancement at the forefront. This sector is slated to bring in a large bouquet of employment opportunities over the next 2-3 decades, but along with it, emerges the bigger challenge of requirement of highly skilled aviation professionals. India is expected to be the third-largest aviation market by 2020, handling 336 million domestic and 85 million international passengers with projected investment to the tune of $120 billion by 2020.

Skilled manpower requirements are estimated to increase from 20,000 to 30,000 for Airports by 2017 whereas for Airlines the rise is estimated from 62,000 to 117,000 by the same year. Adding to this, the requirements in Ground Handling, Flight Catering, Aviation Security and other related areas will treble from current 90,000 to 270,000 in 10 years.

I feel highly privileged to be a part of an Institution that is poised to address these challenging issues of tomorrow, today. With a great sense of pride, I introduce the GMR Aviation Academy as a ”Gateway to Global Aviation Learning”. The Academy has International and National memberships/accreditations and is the Global Training Hub for Airports Council International, is IATA authorised training centre and ‘ICAO TRAINAIR PLUS’ Associate Member. Besides, it is a DGCA approved Centre for conducting DGR Trainings. Coming from the GMR brand name, the GMR Aviation Academy can claim strong industry participation owing to the Group’s leading presence as the operator of the state-of-the-art Delhi and Hyderabad International Airports. The Academy conducts regular training programs at Hyderabad and Delhi and has the unique distinction of reinforcing classroom training with visits to the Group’s Airports that are rated as the best in class globally. The Academy has carved out a niche for itself and is poised to be a Global player, with a major presence in the Asia-Pacific Region.
