“2nd ICAO Regional TRAINAIR PLUS Course Developers and Instructors Standardization Meeting for Asia-Pacific Region” 2nd to 4th July, 2014, hosted by GMR Aviation Academy at the Novotel Airport Hotel, Hyderabad, India.


We are glad to report that the GMR Aviation Academy (GMR AA) had recently hosted the ”2nd ICAO Regional TRAINAIR PLUS Course Developers and Instructors Standardization Meeting for Asia Pacific Region” with grand success, at the Novotel Airport Hotel, Hyderabad, from 2nd to 4th July, 2014. The International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) is the United Nations Specialised Agency for Aviation & Air Transport and the ICAO TRAINAIR PLUS Programme’s objective per se is to improve the safety and efficiency of Air Transport through the establishment, maintenance and monitoring of high standards in training and competency of Aviation Personnel on a Global basis and in a cost effective manner. The 3 day Meeting was aimed at Instructors, Course Developers, Trainers, Aviation Experts and Validators from the Asia Pacific Region to keep pace with changes and challenges driving the Aviation Training Industry.

The highlights of this important International Meeting are as under:

More than 70 Delegates/Experts (mostly Heads of Training) spanning 13 countries participated in the event.

The Indian Delegates comprised of Senior Managers of the Airports Authority of India, other Airports, Ground Handlers, Cargo Terminal Operators , Air India and Trainers/Experts from Indian and Foreign Airlines.

The event was inaugurated by Shri. K. Pradeep Chandra, Special Chief Secretary to the Government, Government of Telangana. In his Inaugural address, Mr. Pradeep Chandra asserted the commitment of the new government of Telangana to boost Civil Aviation in the state of Telangana.

In the Inaugural Ceremony, ICAO formally announced the conferment from ‘Associate Member’ status, to ‘Full Member’ (Gold Plaque) status to the GMR Aviation Academy and officially handed over the Certificate and Gold Plaque. (There are only two Aviation Training Centres in India that enjoy this coveted status i.e. GMR AA and the Civil Aviation Training Centre of Airports Authority of India at Allahabad).

The Standardized Training Package (STP) on “Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design and Operation of Airport Infrastructure” was developed by our designated In-house Team of ICAO Qualified Course Content Developers, which was then evaluated and validated by ICAO after undergoing stringent Quality Assurance Checks, that enabled us acquire the ‘Gold Member’ status.

The Aim of this Course is to provide Airport Sustainability Specialists, Airport Master Planning Personnel, Project & Engineering Personnel, Airside Managers, Terminal Operations Personnel, Airport Operators and Environment Management Specialists with the necessary Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes required to effectively implement and manage ”Airport LEEDOAI” in accordance with LEED Standards and Guidelines.

It has now been enlisted as the 34th STP by ICAO and is hosted on its website in the ”Active Members List”.

Accord of ‘Gold Plaque’ status has also paved the way for GMR Aviation Academy’s in securing the “Regional Training Centre of Excellence of ICAO” status which will enable it to rank as one of the few Top ranking Aviation Academies of the Globe.
